“Atmospheric, poetic, gentle Goth tinged post-punk meets a kind of vaudevillian sensibility, a steely music hall vibe for end times”
— The Even Ground

About David Ell
David Ell announced himself with his debut album Wreckingball, a record full of dark, brooding and powerful pop songs....This was his first studio album, which he recorded and mixed at Cava Studios in Glasgow, an album reviewed as "epic", having a "big big sound", "lush and full" . "For raw heart-on-the-sleeve pop, look no further" (Is This Music). It's an eclectic sound, mixing the best traditions of classic British and American pop-rock.
Dance of the Furies, his second long player, was released in 2012. This represented an arresting change of direction from the indie alternative electronica rock sound of his debut feature. An entirely instrumental album with a distinctive theme, a story set to music, and classical influences coming to the fore, it featured in NBT Music Radio's 100 top albums of 2012.
David Ell's third studio solo album was released in 2016. Welcome to the Ball is a full on pop rock album , taking as its inspiration the changing faces of a classical Venetian masked ball, as evidenced by the album artwork and the haunting music video for Man Behind the Mask.
David's fourth album, “Haunting Times”, is due for release in 2026. A ten track album recorded and mixed with a five piece band at Chamber Studio, Edinburgh - in this new sound David Ell strays in to alternative progressive rock territory. The album is now available on pre-order and samples of the tracks can be heard on the official album page.
David is currently working on his fifth album. This promises a return to a contemporary classical sound, due for release in 2027.
